Management harasses a heart of pure gold
I work with a lady named Dotty at Local 653,UAW who
has gone to the Gear many times and walked with the
people. Dotty has no personal friends at the Gear yet
she drives down 2 or 3 days a week after her shift
and carries a picket sign while trying to encourage
workers. I want you to get to know her a little bit
so that you may understand what has happened to her.
Dotty has a heart of pure gold, she sends everyone in
the plant a birthday card EVERYONE! This is no small
feat keeping track of all of us plus she is sure to
have fellow employees sign each card.
Dotty also is the first one to collect when someone has
lost a family member. We have some members who
are in jail and Dotty makes sure they know we are
keeping them in our thoughts. This women goes out of
her way to show kindness to EVERYONE.
Dotty has also on several occasions taken up generous
collections in the plant at the gate for which she
does not ask for acknowledgement. The amounts she
has collected and brought down to the Gear are VERY,
VERY large.
This week Thursday when Local 235 had the RALLY, after
her 2pm shift, Dotty stood at the gate and asked
members for donations for the striking American Axle
workers. Our members are always happy to help our
Brothers and Sisters. Some of our members were
going to come down to the Gear to walk in the rally
and they did with pride.
While Dotty was collecting the funds both the Plant
HR director and her Foreman told her to stop and of
course because our plant collects for everything (even
has 50/50 raffles) Dotty explained how our Brothers
and Sisters need help right now and this was a way to
show our UNION family we care.
They told her to stop again and then put her on
notice! This is an outrage that we at our Local can raise money
for all kinds of things and even adopt familys at
Christmas but we cannot raise funds for our fellow
UNION members!
Then to put this poor woman on notice today!
We did have a 50/50 rally today for march of dimes (I
think) of which I would not buy nor would many other
Union members.
I just wanted to let you know how they are stopping us
from helping our Brothers and Sisters. They told her
she had to get off GM Property if she wanted to do
this ever again. I have had enough of all the crap
from GM over this. NOW they have hurt a union
sister for trying to help!
